Dennis Ritchie develops the C programming language
1972 The C programming language was first developed by Dennis Ritchie between 1972 and 1973 at the AT&T Bell Laboratories. Initially designed to construct utilities for the Unix operating system, C gained in popularity to become one of the most widely-used programming languages.
